About Our Services

At RINEARN, we accept a wide range of work requests — such as commissioned projects as an independent studio, as well as task-based engagements as a freelance/support engineer.

Note:
Currently, our business-oriented services are primarily available for clients based in Japan.
However, if you are located outside Japan and are interested in working with us, please feel free to contact us and we can discuss what is feasible.

Typical requests include software development and data analysis/visualization, but we do not limit ourselves to specific categories. If we believe we can be helpful, we will consider your request flexibly.

Approximate Hourly Rates

For task-based work, fees are calculated as an hourly rate multiplied by the required time.

Even for deliverable-based requests, we estimate the required hours (effort) and multiply them by an hourly rate to determine an approximate quote.
* Additional items such as a margin and travel expenses may also apply.

Rates vary significantly depending on the content and difficulty. As a rough guideline:

  • Easy tasks (for me personally): around JPY 1,000 / hour
  • Common tasks: around JPY 1,500-2,500 / hour
  • High-difficulty or specialized tasks: around JPY 2,500-3,000 / hour
  • Very difficult tasks or those requiring highly advanced expertise: over JPY 3,000 / hour

Higher difficulty and specialization generally result in higher rates, because high-difficulty work carries a higher risk of situations such as "it took several times longer than expected" or "new hard problems kept emerging and the finish line kept moving farther away." The higher rate also serves as a margin to maintain stability in such cases. Thank you for your understanding.

That said, if a task looks especially interesting — even if it is difficult — we may offer significant discounts at the representative's discretion. Please feel free to discuss your budget and negotiate openly.

Rough Guidelines for Project Quotes and Lead Times

For deliverable-based projects, the total cost and delivery time can vary greatly depending on the content and current workload. As rough, current guidelines:

  • Relatively simple desktop app development or feature additions: tens of thousands to the 100,000-yen range, about 1 to a few weeks
  • Somewhat complex desktop app development or feature additions: 100,000-yen range to several hundred thousand yen, about a few weeks to 2 months
  • Specialized cases such as data analysis/visualization or device/control systems: tens of thousands to several hundred thousand yen, about a few weeks to several months
  • Small-to-medium systems consisting of a DB server (non-cloud) and clients: several hundred thousand yen and up, about several months
  • Extending existing software/systems with no maintainer and little/no documentation: this takes at least several months and is high-cost
  • Simple website creation (not my primary profession): tens of thousands to about 100,000 yen, about a few weeks
  • Updates/small extensions to the above website, writing an article, etc. (per item): hundreds to a few thousand yen, about 1 to a few days
  • Building a custom ChatGPT-based Q&A assistant AI: a few thousand to tens of thousands yen, about a few days to a few weeks
(Note: you will need to obtain and operate a paid ChatGPT Plus account separately.)

For other requests as well, if we believe we can help, we will consider them flexibly — please feel free to ask via the Contact page.

Please note that if on-site work or travel is required, additional travel and accommodation costs will apply. Thank you for your understanding.

If AI Use Is Acceptable, We Can Deliver Faster and at Lower Cost

If it is acceptable to fully leverage AI tools during development/production work, we may be able to reduce the price while delivering faster (the effect depends on the task).

However, in that case, information may be entered into systems operated by U.S.-based AI companies (such as OpenAI). Please make a careful decision based on the confidentiality level of your project and your internal policies.

We will never input any information into AI systems without your prior consent.

We can also flexibly accommodate hybrid approaches — for example, "AI can be used for these parts, but please do not enter any of this other information."

Typical Workflow: From Consultation to Completion

A typical workflow for a request to RINEARN is as follows:

  • 1. Initial consultation by email
  • 2. Discussion (email, online meeting, in-person visit, etc.)
  • 3. Preliminary investigation / analysis
  • 4. Quotation
  • 5. Order / contract
  • 6. Development / work execution
  • 7. Delivery (for deliverable-based projects)
  • 8. Feedback / revisions
  • 9. Acceptance (for deliverable-based projects)
  • 10. Invoicing / payment
